    4657 fuel pump configuration question

    Looks like I need to repost this question. After a couple of days, traffic drops off dramatically..

    The 2 images on the right below are of a fuel pump I purchased a couple years ago for my 63. It came in an AC box that was marked as a rebuild 24657 pump.

    The question I have is with regard to the correct casting configuration. If you notice the image on the left below has a wider boss at the screw penetration points at 1 and 7 o'clock. This pump is stamped 4657 where as the pump I have is not.

    Question.. Are both casting configurations correct for 4657 pumps?

    Tracy,

    The 4657 that I have does not have the wider bosses. It is identical to the ones on the right.

    So it will be interesting to see which is right, or both.

      Tracy: not sure of this one but i'd favor the FP on the left. Doubt judges are this anal but may become so eventually. mike

        Mike: Is it possible that AC Delco had two (2) suppliers of the castings thus the differance in the two tops. It is common in manufacturing etc. to have two or more suppliers to insure availability of materials in the event a supplier encountered a labor strike. Just a thought. Len 39247

          Thanks Mike,

          I'm certainly open for other comments on this one. Might be interesting to hear from others on the configuration on their own car. This is fairly easy to view when installed.

          I'm sure Joe would like a consensus here as well.

          Although this pump is said to be a rebuild, I plan to rebuild is again if it is an acceptable configuration. The box it came in is pretty haggard. (like Merle of course)

          There are Leprechauns near my abode that will correct the lack of a stamping. All that is required is that I leave the part in the hollow log near the babbling brook on St Pattys Day Eve.

          Just need to know before then.

            It has been my understanding that cars were originally delivered with the plain round screw reinforcement version (without the wide reinforcements) and that later over the counter replacements had the wide reinforcements on the top.
