    Late '67 3916321 engine blocks

Of the late '67's that came with the 1968 model 321 block what are acceptable casting dates?

    Thanks,

    Tom------

Personally, I really doubt that any 1967s were produced with the '321' block. While some early 1968 model Chevrolets, including Corvettes, may have used 1967 engines (suitably modified for 1968 features like spin-on oil filter), I don't think that the converse was true. If it was done, however, then the 1967 model with the '321' block would have a spin-on oil filter. As far as I know, though, there is no way that a '321' block could have been fitted with a cannister-style filter, so if they were used on 1967 models, then the spin-on filter would have to go with it.

In any event, if one could find a '321' block dated at least a few weeks prior to the body build date of a very late 1967 Corvette, then I suppose that it's THEORETICALLY possible that the engine could have resided in a 1967 Corvette---with a spin-on oil filter.

The factory did sell adapter number 3951626 for police and truck use to attach a cannister filter to the later style block.

I have a late 1967 L71 with the "321" block. I have no real proof it is original to the chassis. Obviously, I was sold the vehicle as "number matching". The serial number is ...20909. The block casting date is D-27-7. the PAD info is T0525JE and the build date is K14(June14). I do have the tank sticker and owner history to say the car is what it appears to be. Does this make any sense/nonsense to anyone?

          Hi
Saw the block from 7122845 stamped T0706JE about 14 years ago at Spring Carlisle and it was a 3916321 casting.

My car was built on July 10th, and going from Noland Adams Vol. 2 my car is in the range to have had the 321 block, I think the last 2 responses answered my question about the general begining casting date that would be acceptable.

              Mark-----

The GM #3951626 adapter would, indeed, allow the installation of a cannister-style filter on a 1968+ block but this piece was not released until July, 1969. However, there was a predecessor part, GM #3915163, which was used for 1968-69 trucks and police cars to allow the installation of the cannister style filter on a 68+ block. So, it is possible that this piece was used to allow the 68 blocks to be used in 1967 Corvettes and retain the cannister style filter with that block.

I can't find any record that the GM #3915163 was ever used in PRODUCTION for any Corvette, but it's possible that it was.

                Tom,

                I have a late 67 VIN 22827. The block casting #3892657 date F307 stamp V0703HT.
The heads however are both 3917291 dates F57 & F67. These would be early 68 heads. I wrote to Nolan Adams and his reply was that the dates were within the probable range of being original to the car and because they produced more 67's than originally planned the fact that some late 67's most likely would have some 68 designated parts.
