Judging point deduction

Well with this meet coming up in May fairley local to me I may step up the pace of my cars restoration to try and get it flight judged.

When I purchased my car I never ever thought I would be concerned with the NCRS judging.

But from taking it to local show's the peer pressure from fellow vette owner (I mean perfect strangers) pointing out flaws and explaining to me
"If your going to do it you mine as well do it correct" Needless to say I have been dilagently working on building my car FACTORY CORRECT using the aim,The judging manual,and a bunch of other refrence manuals including noland adams book,the advice of this forum and some other forum.PS I have really enjoyed doing this type of a restoration.

Any ways back to my original question.One of the fist thing I did with my car before I was concerned with factory correct was to replace my interiour.My trim tag says standard black interiour but I had chose to use leather.What is the deduct to leave the leather in the car or should I just replace it with the correct vinyl?( I have a freind who explained "eather your going for flight judging or your not going for flight judging") And his suggestion is to install the proper vinyl seats and not waste anyones time with the leather seats.

I also have reproduction knock offs on the car and can not find an affoudable set of original knock offs.I would assume my best route on that would be to find a set of correct steel rims and hub caps?

"factory correct restoration" I have tremendously enjoyed the journey,and even if I dont fair so well on the judging field that first time I know I will have some invaleuble advice and how to make it 100% factory correct.

The judging manual spells out the deduction for the change in material. I do not have one in from of me now.

Steel wheels and hub caps would be a better choice if you are going for judging points.

I think that you will find most NCRS judges have quite a bit more tact than the total strangers that you talk about. The emphasis for years has been to be courtious, friendly, tactful, and knowledgeable. The car is the owner's baby.

Do not stand over the judges the whole time the car is being judged. Do not question the deductions as they are made. They will take time to explain the deduction after they are finished with your car.

Remember that there are three awards. Unless the car has a problem with a VIN tag or an ISCA show car, the awards are very attainable. Do not be disappointed if your car is not a 100 point car. None of them are, contrary to popular belief. Use the event as a learning experience, take the judging sheets and use them to improve your restoration. MOST of all, HAVE FUN, enjoy yourself

The Judging Referece Manual specifies a deduction of 50% for any interior item that does not match the trim tag. If the color was available that year, you will lose only 50% of the points allotted to seat material. This is assuming that the door panels, dash, visors, etc. are all correct.

Larry you're looking at aprox 10pt deduct on the seats so it's up to you. I don't know what year car you have but you should ask Roy Sinor the Judging Chairman rsinor@sbcglobal.net for a copy of the judging sheets for your year car. You can then judge your car yourself to get some idea of where you stand. BTW don't forget to have a fire extinguisher, a battery cutoff and a NCRS Decal on board for a 10 pt bonus. I'm registered for the NJ May regional so maybe I'll see you there.

Thanks for the information.

I can do the seats no problem.I need to replace a hurst shifter.If I cant aquire the correct rims by may should I not go? Or should I just go knowing I have the wrong rims and take the hit.I keep saying next year i will get judged and it may just be having a dead line this year I may be able to acomplish this

Larry... Sounds like my recent history. Don't get discouraged, its a great ride. Bought a non correct '61 with matching numbers on block in May 2001. Through alot of research, friendly help from NCRS and other vette friends and of course alot of cash & time, put car in Flight judging last Sept. 95 points and Top flight my first time out. One of the proudest moments I've had. Now to set up remainder of schedule with my report card ( judging sheet) to do things that were deductions. Some easy and some expensive still. But educational, rewarding and fun to drive. Feel like I am in a parade each time I take it out! Best of Luck finding original parts to restore etc. Bruce #39024

Plus, this weekend, March 13/14, you're missing the UK Chapter's annual Judging Workshop. This is a teaching session and Chuck Berge, NCRS National Team Leader for '68-72 Corvette (former NTL for '58-60 Corvette) has flown over to conduct the school. A LOT of your questions could be answered there, but it's too late for you to enroll....

I think I'd ponder the issue of joining and becoming a member of the UK Chapter as it's the ONLY official presense of NCRS in Europe. Despite the English language and the 'barrier' of the English Channel, they're a LOT closer to you than we are on this side of the pond!!!!

Thanks for the info, but I think I'm running out of luck since in September we will be in the States to Visit the Carlisle show and do a 3 week trip through the States so I probably miss that one as well.

In the meanwhile I'm still seriously looking into setting up a Dutch chapter, I'm currently inventoring the number of interrested C1 and C2 owners to reach the 25 person limit.
