I am doing an engine swap in my car. While I have the clutch out I wonder if there is any way I can check it. Disc thickness etc. I'm under the impression that it's just over a year old so it should be o.k.

Re: C2 clutch
Frank,
Age has nothing to do with the ability of a clutch to do it's job correctly. They can be burned down in an hour with an idiot at the wheel.
Take your clutch along with the pressure plate and flywheel to a clutch rebuilder in your area. Can be found in the yellow pages. Ask them to evaluate the clutch plate and test the pressure plate.
They are the professionals and should act as such.

There's no way that I know of to assess its condition by measuring. The best bet is to compare it to a known, new friction disc. Basically, you want a little "breathing room" between the rivet heads and the outermost portion of the clutch friction material. There's not too much even in a new clutch friction disc, so don't expect to see a lot.
You should also check the pressure plate and flywheel for signs of severe "bluing", surface cracking, or scoring. If any significant amount of any of these is observed, then you'll need to re-surface or replace the pressure plate assembly and/or flywheel. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
