    Judging Manual Information

I was wondering if any one has a 2nd addition Judging Guide & Tech Info. for 1966. I only have a 3rd addition. When I had my car flight judged some time ago, there was a lot of discussion among the judges regarding rear view mirrors. There was a gentleman there also having his '66 judged. He showed the judges that when the 3rd addition was printed apparently a small paragraph was left out that was in the 2nd addition and said it should of been in the 3rd addition. The mirror is discussed on page 19 of the 3rd addition. Should anyone have a 2nd addition, could you e-mail me the page from it regarding rear view mirror.
    Thank you

    Judging Manual Information

    Don,

The paragraph in the 2nd edition that is missing from the 3rd edition says:

"One version has a chrome plated cast mirror body approximately eight (8) inches in length with a dated glass. check for a date code in the lower right hand corner of the glass. Example: 3DMI6 = March 1966."

The other mirros in the day-night version wihout a date code. I think the above paragraph is the main difference between the 2nd and 3rd edtion, but I don't have the 3rd edition in front of me to check at the moment.

You know that the 4th edition is now available, don't you? Hopefully, the 4th edition will describe both mirrors. I've ordered the 4th edition, but it hasn't arrived yet.

    Gary

Don, the third edition has just been replaced by the fourth. I received mine for the chapter today. The paragraph that Don cites has been re-instated.

        Don -
The 4th edition reads as follows:
1966 Models use one of two possible mirrors; a standard mirror and an optional non-glare (day/night) mirror. Both mirrors attach to a chrome plated cast mounting shaft with a slot-head screw. The base of the mounting shaft is secured to the center of the windshield header with two chrome plated Phillips head screws.
The standard mirror has a chrome plated cast mirror body approximately eight (8) inches in length with a dated glass. Check for a date code in the lower right corner of the glass. (Ex: 3DMI6=March 1966)
The optional non-glare (day/night) mirror is stainless steel approximately eight (8) inches in length with the words "GUIDE" and "GLARE PROOF" appearing on the top of the mirror. A 1/2" black knob on the bottom edge of the mirror turns 90 degrees moving the mirror up for night driving. The non-glare mirror glass does not have a date code. Regards - P.J.

          Re: Judging Manual Information

Thank You everyone and NO I did not know there was a 4th addition. I always buy mine at Corvettes @ Carlisle. I had checked in August and there wasn't a new one. Not to sound dumb, but where do I order the 4th addition from ? ? ?

            Re: Judging Manual Information

Order the manual from the NCRS office. By the way, DRIVELINE always lists when new editions of manuals are ready for purchase. We have had four new ones over the winter and updated pages to two more.

              Gary

My 66 driver built in early February has the chrome mirror with a "12DMI5" code. Are these re-produced or can I assume it is original? If they are reproduced, is there a way to tell one from the other?

              Thanks

I sure don't know what I was thinking. I should of know that you order from the NCRS office. I checked Jan/Feb issue of driveline, but it did not list 4th addition.Probably will show up in next Driveline. I will get my order in the mail. Thanks again to all.

                  Response to Rich

                  Rich,

I can't help you much with your quetion. My 66 has the day/nite mirror without a date code. I really don't know anything about the other mirror. If you're interested in a restored original mirror, I suggest contacting Carol Fish. Her contact info is:

Carol Fish, 2724 Windsor Forest Drive, Louisville, KY 40272, 502-933-3734

Unfortunately, she does not do business by mail. You need to supply her with a core and/or buy a restored original mirror from her at an East Coast show that she attends.

                  Gary

                    Re: Response to Rich

                    Thanks Gary.

I got a response off board that says Paragon has the tooling for DMI and makes exact copy mirrors that are undetectable from originals.
