    '64 Seat Track Color

I'm getting ready to refinish my bottom seat frames and tracks on my 1964 Corvette. The 3rd Edition of the 63/64 Judging Manual states that the bottom seat frames are painted gloss black and the seat tracks are either painted "black" or plated with a dark gray oxide. My questions is what is the correct shade of black paint for the tracks? Is it gloss black like the frames, semi-gloss or flat black? What has been flight judged as the correct shade of black?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Best Regards,

My seats have never been out of the car, i.e. the paint is original. Looking at them with a flashlight, everything looks to be the same gloss black under there. David

      David,

Thanks for the reply. Has your car been flight judged? If so, did the judge make any comments on the seat tracks?

I'm hoping to get a few more people to answer the question. I'd like to here from some people that have had their car flight judged and possibly get an answer from Jack Humphry or possibly the 63/64 Judging Team Leader.

Thanks again for your reply, I appreciate it.

Yes, it was judged and no comment re the tracks. I can't imagine it being anything more than a point one way or the other regardless of the direction you take. I don't recall a separate line on the judging sheets but maybe someone alse can chime in on that.

          David,

Again, thanks for the response. In the 3rd edition of the 63/64 JM on page 40 it has a sub section on seat frame and track. Originality and condion points are 4 and 4. I wouldn't think they would take more than one originality point for the incorrect shade of black. Since your car has been judged and no judges comments on the gloss black tracks it must be accepted as correct. I spoke with a fellow Nebraska Chapter NCRS member today at World of Wheels Auto show who also has a '64 that he believes has never been apart. He looked at his seat tracks after reading this thread and said they looked to be gloss black also. The frames are prepped and waiting for paint, so gloss black for the seat tracks it will be.

Sounds good to me. Good luck with your flight judging. David
