Ok - I did everything I was told but I have one bolt that will not come out. It is body mount #4 (the one located bedhind the rear deck spring). The caged nut is spinning and I can't hold it does anyone have any suggestions? The way it is now I can't loosen or tighten the bolt. It is almost completely out so I might be able to cut the bolt in half and drive the remaining bolt, nut and cage up into the interior compartment but I don't want to do that if I don't have to. Any help is appreciated!

Re: Body Mount Help!
I wish I had a better answer. I have a '69 that I am restoring ... I had the same problem and I finally got so exasperated that I just cut the bolt heads off the bottom (by the frame mounts). I thought that it might be easier to do that then to get involved in trying to remove the soft top deck lid springs. To put it back together, I thought that I could perhaps rethread the ends and double nut them. Sorry I don't know the "correct" answer but good luck. Let me know if you get a real answer, though the damage is done on my car!

Re: Body Mount Help!
I had the same problem. You can slide the pointy end of a file into the cage of the nut at the one corner. It becomes wedged in and the bolt will come off the nut. You might need to have two people to do this because it gets a little tricky.Keith Burmeister- Top

Re: Body Mount Help!
Craig --- Keith's suggestion is your second last resort; your cage has already deformed (slightly) if the nut turns, so if jamming something between the nut and the cage doesn't work, you'd best cut the rivets holding the cage to the body, then put LARGE vise grips or crescent wrench on the square nut (2 man job, per Keith) -- this way you can probably save the bolt. As previously mentioned, you don't really need the cage to reinstall the bolt after body cushion/washer replacement. ---- good luck, Wayne- Top

Re: Body Mount Help!
Craig, Don't worry about the cage around the nut. Get rid of it. You can always install a new one later. If you have air available, use an air hammer and pound wth a blunt bit around the nut and on the bolt head itself. BE VERY CARFUL as if you slip, you can go through fiberglass very easily. Regulate the air down to the hammer and rattle away. I have found this works great, but takes some time and patience. A little WD-40 will also help, but do not use so much as to soak the fiberglass. Good luck!

Re: Body Mount Help!
Hi Craig, The way I solved the spinning caged nut at the number four position was to take a large pair of side cutters and remove as much of the cage as I could. This may require amirror and a flashlight.I then liberally soaked the nut with knocker loose and let it sit overnight. You then need to find a one inch 4 or 8 point socket I think PROTO made mine. Now you need a helper One person inside and one person outside. The inside requires a breaker bar and the one inch socket. The bolt may break but I think you can remove it this way. good luck Brett Driscoll member 26846- Top
