    C1 there must be a trick....

    to getting the lock out of the seat separator stowage compartment door on my '59. Would somebody please let me in on the secret? I'm no Houdini put I did just manage to get the trunk lock out after going a couple rounds with that *@#%* clip. Thanks. Pat G.

    The outside chrome bezel is screwed onto the lock. I'm not aware of any tricks or procedures (did you look at the GM servicing Guide?), but I know it will unscrew from the bezel. Don H.

        That was too easy....

        Thanks Don. I had looked in the Servicing Guide, the AIM, and the CC catalogue.
        Expected something like insert pin A into hole C...

        Rob, like Don says, the stowage compartment lock bezel just unscrews. It's a slippery little devil though. Remove the trunk lid badge to get at the trunk lock retaining clip. There was a bezel gasket on mine, made the clip really tight.

          If you insert a paper clip into the hole in the top of the lock body at the hole, it will release the lock cylinder. Once you do this, you will see that the inside of the bezel has a unique pentagonal shape to it. Don't ask me why they used a five-sided shape instead of a standard Hex! If you just insert a large straight-bladed screwdriver into the opening and twist, the bezel will screw right out without having to try to grab the outside of the bezel with a pair of pliers. A word of caution here, When you install the lock cylinder back in the lock, make sure that you install it right-side up! The release tab is on the top and there is no hole on the bottom of the lock body to release the tab if you install it upside-down. I spent close to an hour one day to get an upside-down cylinder back out!

              Pat...

              Inserting the lock retainer clip may be a real pain with the lock gasket in place...There are spicks located on each side of the retainer clip cutout hole, File these off and it will make it much easier to side in to place. There will be enough retention to hold the lock.

              The glove box door lock is installed with a retainer nut. If the lock does not seat square, This nut can be a minor pain to screw on... If you are installing a new lock, you may have to file one the ridges to make it seat properly in the hole.
