I HAVE A 1962 THAT HAS RED WHEELS,I KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THAT AS SHIPPED FROM THE FACTORY THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS BUILT WITH BLACK WHEELS BUT LET ME GIVE YOU THE FACTS ABOUT THIS CAR. THE ORIGINAL OWNER WHEN ORDERING THIS VEHICLE REQUESTED THAT IT HAVE RED WHEELS. IT IS DOCUMENTED ON THE ORDER FORM AS IT WAS WRITTEN IN AS A HAND WRITTEN REQUEST "OWNER REQUEST RED WHEEL IF POSSIBLE" WHICH I HAVE THE NEW VEHICLE BUYERS ORDER FORM AND CAN PROVE BOTH IN WRITING BY THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND PHOTOS SOON AFTER HE TOOK DELIVERY IN 1962. HE TOLD ME THAT THE SELLING DEALER HAD PAINTED THEM BEFORE HE TOOK DELIVERY BECAUSE THE CAR CAME IN AS A BLACK WHEEL VEHICLE BUT THEY HAD HONORED HIS REQUEST AND PAINTED THEM AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE IN AN EFFORT TO PLEASE THEIR CUSTOMER. SO WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD THE FACT THAT THE CAR HAS ALWAYS HAD THEM FROM DAY ONE OF ACTUAL OWNERSHIP AND BE PROVEN BE THE WAY THEY SHOULD REMAIN OR WHAT? HOW WOULD THIS BE RECEIVED BY THE JUDGING BOARD? THE CAR HAS ALL THE ORIGINAL WHITE PAINT AND I AM LEAVING THAT WAY SO WHY NOT LEAVE THESE WHEELS AND SHOW IT AS IT WAS. IT'S CORRECT IN MY EYES. WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Re: C-1 RED WHEELS? YOUR THOUGHTS
You would be a whole lot easier to read if you weren't in all caps. NCRS standard is "as it left the factory". You can show the car with whatever color wheels you want, but unless your proof is that the factory did it, you'll lose points. The NCRS is now 30 years old, and that has been the judging philosophy since day 1--I doubt that you'll get that changed. So, you have to make a decision--run with red wheels, because that's what the dealer did, or run with black wheels; and get the points. I personally would get a set of black wheels and repro 6.70 x 15's for judging, and do whatever you want the rest of the time.(red with radials?)- Top

Lots of things are done by the dealers before delivery. Mike is right the car is judged as delivered from the factory not from the dealer. Bill- Top
