    1962 Gas Cap

Can someone help.I'm looking to buy a Nos gas cap on ebay. They said it is original and fits 58-62.Was the gas cap the same for all those years.I believe the picture showed a stenciled G-40 in blue paint on it.They said there is a 3 letter stamping on the wing and it's made by stant.Another one I saw on ebay they said is Nos..No stenciled G-40 on it but in the center of the cap is an S. Are either of these correct? Can someone give me the correct info..My car is a 1962 vette and I need the right one.

    Thanks for your help........John

    Re: 1962 Gas Cap

    John...

    Three gas caps were used; Fuller-Emerson,(stamped "F" & "E"), Standt,(stamped "S") and Eaton. I believe most 61 & 62's (after 3-9-61)used the Fuller-Emerson Cap, GM #3751027.

I agree---every 62 gas cap that I've been able to document as original was an F E.

          I think....

Dennis gave the answer in his post above in this thread! The '61 AIM documents a reduction in suppliers/PN's for the gas cap (from three to one) on AIM date 3-9-61. Noland Adams shows us which PN was which mfgr by excerpt of GM dwg's in his '58-60 Corvette section.

So, after 3-9-61, cars shipped from the factory with other gas caps would simply have resulted from random draw of what old inventory was on hand at St. Louis from the period when three suppliers were used. The further away from 3/9/61 we get, the lower the liklihood of seeing a Corvette with a factory gas cap other than Fuller Emerson. By '62 production, the odds are pretty miniscule....
