    Engine code

The previous owner of my 1962 Corvette told me the engine had been replaced with a 1965 327 engine. The code I found on the engine is: TI220HCH. I would like to know what type of engine this is, and what the specifications for this engine are.

    Thanks

    Re: Engine code

The begining part of your number is the plant location and date followed by the engine suffix code HCH. This motor translates to a normal 1965 passanger 327,275 hp powerglide with a holley carb. This motor was made in the Tonawanda plant in Ny. Hope this helps. Jon Herrick

according to the corvetteid numbers 1953-93, your motor was built at tonawanda on 12/20 . the HCH code does not make sense as it should only be a 2 digit code. HE code is 250hp 4bl man trans there is no hc code but HH is a 365hp 4bl man trans shp

            Re: Engine code

Some passanger cars in 1966 used 3 letter suffix codes. Sorry for the mistyped date but your motor is from 1966 not 1965 and the description I gave you previously is correct. Jon Herrick

I agree with Jon Herrick's corrected post; your engine is a 275hp 327 originally installed in an automatic-equipped, full size, 1966 Chevrolet passenger car. Incidentally, the 275hp 327 was very similar to the Corvette 300hp 327. All of the engine internal parts are identical. Cylinder heads, cylinder block, intake manifold and exhaust manifolds are also identical. The horsepower difference is primarily related to slight differences in carburetion, ignition, and Chevrolet's "creative" horsepower rating system of the period.
