    C2 1967 Convertible

I'd like to know how I go about finding the factory color of the stinger on my car. The gas tank sticker only tells me that the convertible top was white.
    Thanks

What color is the car? Also, is it one of those 327s that got the bb hood? (I expect not.)

The car is Rally Red with a red vinyl interior. It is a 427/435.

Is there a specific book or reference manual by Noland Adams that would help me get answers to the many questions I have about restoring this beautiful car? Thanks in advance. Pat

            Pat,

Buy Noland Adams "The Complete Corvette Restoration & Technical Guide Vol 2"

You can buy this and alot of other good midyear books through the NCRS store.

Pat: Check out ebay item # 2467015399 and you will see a picture of the book. You can also order it directly from Noland Adams. If I remember correctly Noland has an ad in the Driveline for the book with his mailing address.

                  Pat,

------Back in the late 70s one of the mechanics in the Classic Motors shop(part of Jack Douglass Chevrolet) had a red/red 435 with original paint and it had a white hoodstripe. There were variations from car to car. The only reason we could devine back at the time was that the car was ordered with a white top and white-walls. Nowdays it seems plausible also that the white hoodstripe could have been requested by the customer...............Bill S

Thanks Bill....did that car have a white convertible top?? This is a frame off restoration. I would like the car to look like it did when it came off the assembly line. If it was a matter of aesthetics, then I think the stripe should be black, but if it was a specific detail ordered by the original owner, then I'd like it to be what that was. I'm looking for a source that I can refer to. Someone posted a response that Noland Adams is the definitive source. Perhaps I should look into that.

Hi Bill, I was a little surprised to see your input on my old red 435 car. Amazing how we remember all the incredible cars that we all had in the 70's. That car was originally delivered to a good friend of mine with a black stripe, not white. I remember it when it was just a few months old in 67. I lost tract of it until it came up for sale in about 77 or 78 and at that point the car had been totally repainted with a white stripe instead of black. I bought the car from the 2nd owner and she told me that her husband wanted the color change on the stripe. I still remember the VIN and also have a few pictures of that car at Oswego drag strip in the late 60's, with the black stripe. The original red line spare is STILL in the original owners fathers garage in Illinois.

                      Hope all is well,

                      Michael

BTW: Do you remember something VERY unusual about the seats in that car?

                        Mike,

------Wow,good to hear from you! Memory gets worse all the time,as I truly thought that old car had original paint back then. My bad! Werent those seats headrest seats that never had the chrome escutcheons attached, nor the slit cut?
------The last I heard you and Jack M. had gotten together in Fla. Hope all is well with you too............Bill S

Hey Bill, I know exactly what ya mean about the memory. I'm a geezer now and all that Corvette stuff seems like 25 years ago. (it was!)

Absolutely right on the headrests in that car. Very strange deal. I had the car a few days and Zimmerman happened to walk by it and noticed "bumps" in the tops of the seats. He said it looked just like the headrest assembly was installed in the seat backs but the holes were never cut in the vinyl for the headrests. He eventually installed the headrests before I sold the car a few months later. It had all original interior at that time so we knew it was a factory screw up. Very strange.
I saw Jack here last year. I had a few things that belonged to a car that he now owns. Was good to see him too.
We should have a reunion of the old Corvette geezers one of these days.

                              Tom,

I remember Oswego drag strip in N.Y. but this was Oswego drag raceway in Illinois, about 30 miles west of Chicago.
