    Master cylinder cap

Anyone know if a new cap (67 model year) is available through GM and what the part number is? My MC has a strange problem in that is leaks fluid out from around the top as the fluid sloshes around. I can't see anything wrong with the cap, and I have tried a new gasket - but a small amount of fluid shows up after a drive. All I know to do is try a new cap unless you guys have a suggestion...

doubt gm still services the mc cap but if they do its not configured per original. this cap was used on gm cars of the late 60's( old pontiac, chevy etc) go junk yarding if orig configuration desired . see judging manual for correct config. good luck, mike

The cap you seek is available under GM #18060017 for about 11 bucks, GM list. Less from a Delco dealer. As Mike mentions, it will be configured a bit differently from the originals. The vent holes will be slightly different, there will be a small "tunnel" between the domes, and the stamped wording on the domes will be different. However, it will be 100% functional and it will be NEW.

Joe, thanks. Regarding the vent holes, the one I have now has vents that actually vent out the side of the cap under the seal and to me would be a potential leak site. Does the new type vent only between the two reservoirs and not out the sides? Seems like that one would be less prone to leak...

I think that the venting on all of these caps is between the seal and the cap (i.e. into the space between the seal and the cap). Any direct venting from the area under the seal would definitely create a likely leak and source for brake fluid contamination.
