    C2 rear spring installation

When installing the rear spring, is it necessary for the rear end to be fully assembled, or is it sufficient to just have the rear cover mounted to the crossmember?

Just make sure you DO NOT torque the four spring mounting bolts until the full weight of the car is on the spring, which will be nearly flat under design load; if you torque them up with the spring unloaded and arched, chances are good that you'll be buying a new rear cover.
