The machine marks on the spokes changed

from the circular pattern to the linear marks around 63 VIN 18400. (sez in my JG anyway)

When I was restoring my '63 many years ago, I was not aware of the different grind marks in the '63 steering wheel frame. So I found and installed a beautiful original dk. blue wheel with the circular marks. My car is #21102, and should have the radial marks. But after months of looking, I was not able to locate a nice replacement. So I chose a new tack - I was able to find a radial grind dk. blue wheel in so-so condition on eBay (cracks at 3:00, 9:00, 12:00 and a 1/8" gap at 6:00) for $75. I bought it and shipped this off the Gary's.

N O T E - Gary has POOR communication skills that caused me endless fits during the weeks it took to get this restoration accomplished. But if you can deal with that and just stick it out, the result I received back (on time) was breathtaking. I continue to be impressed every time I climb into my car.

I received my new wheel back from Gary's in January '04. Cost at that time was $300 (hmmm, price change?). My circular grind wheel is now a wall hanging.

Hi Syd!

I'd vote for the Teak Freaks as someone else suggested. Saw them at Carlisle a couple of years ago and received a good explanation of their restoration (using the old plastic remnants from people turning-in plastic wheels for teak conversions). I don't know whether or not they do coloured wheels, though. Price quoted to me at that time was $150 (US).
