I need to trailer 67 long distance this weekend. Trailer has d-rings and axle straps (no tire baskets) Have 2 hooks that I was told fit into frame in front of rear tires and straps hook directly to these hooks and should be crossed for rear tiedown. What is best method and location for front tiedown?

Re: 67 trailer tiedown
If you have 2 more hooks there are slots on the end of the frame rails that the J hooks go in. If not, you can use use padded straps around the lower control arms, attach the straps and cross them.Dick Whittington- Top

Re: 67 trailer tiedown
I actually use a setup of 3/8" galv. chain to tie down the front of my 65. I use a short piece of chain to go over the lower a-frame on each side with a piece of used fire hose over the chain where it contacts the car. I use the screw type chain links to connect the sections of chain on each control arm to another section of chain that connects to each of the D-rings on each front side of the trailer. I then use the rear straps/ratchet to pull the car backwards tight against the front tie-downs. This way not cut straps at least on the front of the car during transit. I realize that this probably overkill, but I used waht I had around when I set it up years ago. You can just use straps on the front, but I would recommend getting the seperate sleeves to fit over the straps where they contact the car pieces.- Top

Re: No crossing recommended
why is no crossing advised?
Lastley I thought it was better to tire strap the cars so the suspention was still operating keeping the car safer.
Whats also important to know if its in an enclosed trailer use caution what you store in the trailer. It may seem safe but there is alot of energy in a panic stop.things fly around.
if its an open traile dont use a cover because the wind cause's the cover to flap and hurt the cars finish.
Also check your tie downs often on a long trip.- Top

It depends on your goals. If you have a set of rare original shocks you want to last a long time, then the bouncing up and down on the trailer is putting miles on them just like driving them. Just because the odo doesn't move doesn't mean you don't put miles on the parts.
There are lots of arguements on oscillation of springs, those of the trailer and those of the car. The car are dampened, so it doesn't really get out of hand. The trailer are usually stiff enough that they are not really reacting as much as you'd think. But there are as many for bouncing as there are for tying down solid.- Top
