    Dash Pad Maintenance

I just purchased a used black dash pad for my '60 car. It has a white substance deeply rooted in some of the pattern lines (possibly some type of wax and/or preservative). I tried to remove the substance with a gentle cleanser and water mix, with no success. Would anyone have any suggestions on the best cleaner to use to remove the substance without causing harm to the vinyl. I also want to bring the black color back to life. Is there any type of treatment, application and/or coating that anyone has used with success? Thanks in advance.

    Re: Dash Pad Maintenance

I used carburator cleaner and a brass wire brush on mine (these are not typos). I used them because nothing else would get this type of embedded dirt build up out of the lines. It will look bad after that, but it will look perfect after you use Meguire's Protectant on it. I did mine 4 or 5 years ago and it still looks great. Jim
