Screws and Bolts in AIM and GM Books?

I have an old listing of GM parts with prices and the parts book from 1979. When I see a part referenced in the Assembly manual, I want find the dimensions by that part number. This would be helpful every day for bolts and etc. The parts book only sometimes has this information.

Is (or was) there another document to assist me in this search? I am tired of buying "bolt kits" that miss the mark.

There are many other books which could help, but most are not commonly available and are extremely difficult to find. However, one that you might be able to find is the GM Standard Parts Catalog. The older the edition, the better as far as older Corvettes go. These catalogs were first published, I believe, about 1973 or 1974. Prior to that, the information was contained in the Group 8.9 section of the regular P&A Catalog.

The problem is that not all PRODUCTION fastners were ever available in SERVICE. Many were NOT. You can only find those that were available in SERVICE (and, at the time of publication of the particular Standard Parts Catalog that you have) in the Standard Parts Catalog.

        Joe,

I'm struggling with the same lack of parts info as Tom (for my '68). Do you have any idea where I might find this "P&A" Catalog to which you have referred?

The 1968-edition Chevrolet P&A Catalog hasn't been available since 1968. You might find a copy on eBay or from a used automotive parts source. However, I can assue you that you won't find very many of the fastners used in PRODUCTION on a 1968 Corvette in the Group 8.9 section of this catalog (or, anywhere else in the catalog, for that matter). A very early edition of the "Standard Parts Catalog" will have some of the fastners described (maybe, about 35-40% of those used in PRODUCTION). These catalogs can be found from the same sources as described above.

            Joe,

What would be a good source info on screws and bolts for a 1962?

            Thanks,
            Mike

An older edition of the P&A Catalog (like 1962 or 1963) would have SOME information, but not really a lot. Joe Tripoli's Chassis Restoration Guide has some good information relative to headmarkings, size and finish for some of the bolts for C1-era cars. Much more for C2 and C3.

                    Tom,

I don't know whether this will help or not, but M.F. Dobbins' "Vette Vues" Fact books on the mid year cars contained sketches, head markings and size/thread types for many fasteners. Unfortunately, I don't think there was a cross-reference to part ##s.
