    1972 Front Grille

Does anyone know of a restoration service for a 1972 Front Grills. I have seen then for sale in numerous catalogs but was wondering if anyone can refurbish them. Also if anyone knows the correct paint color of the grille. Thank you,

Sure they can be restored! Simply pull and send out for re-chrome. Search the archieves as Terry McManmon once posted the factory original blend code for the charcoal grey paint that was used to accent and consider shooting a base coat onto the fresh re-chrome of SEM self-etchant primer. You don't want the new paint to flake-off/wash-away after all your work and a self-etchant primer will STICK to the slippery chrome surface....

      1972 Front Grille/Self-etching primer

What's the skinny on self-etching primer? I used it the other day to prime a bare metal air cleaner before applying regular primer and paint but had no idea about the "self-etching" qualities of the product. Is there some sort of slight chemical reaction resulting when it is applied to metal, either bare metal or chrome? Thanks.
      Best regards,

Self etching bonds to almost anything, even glass (do not ask me how I know) It is ideal substrate to use on chrome. Excellent bonding and in the case of PPG's DP series, and excellent corrision inhibitor.

Dick, I have heard that Earl Schieb will paint the windows too, if you bring the car in un-masked.

Chuck, I was not even working on the vehicle that got the DP on the windows. Laquer thinner would not even cut it. Had to scrape it off.
