    Another judging question

    Hi judges,

Another judging question: should you present your car during a judging exercise without license plates since the car leaves the factory without any ?

    thanks,
    Rob.

    Re: Another judging question

This is a very interesting question and I am sure someone can answer it. But I have another for future judging. I saw the new vettes with protective white plastic attached to most of the body. Is this the way it will need to be presented to get full points? Just curious, Jim

      Jim,

No, because the standard is "as dealer prepared." Since the usual standard is for the dealer to remove the plastic, they will not be shown that way.

Cars can be displayed with license plates on, OR with license plate brackets and hardware in the car in original type bags or envelopes (trunk for a solid axle? they are placed in the rear compartment on a 71/72) as per factory delivery.

        Re: Another judging question

Dealer prepared ??? What is that?? I remember dealers adding (stock original G.M options ) like hub caps, locking gas caps, mats, and many other accessories to dress up cars. Owner never stopped to think that the factory dint do it . After all they are G.M parts. Back in the 50's dealers displayed them on the walls.
Many dealers under-coated many Corvettes and cars and to day people argue over what is correct about it.
We read stories about original owners stating the Corvette came this way or that way when NEW. And don't they swear to it.
Now this is only my opinion as I stated many times, but if an accessories or option was "MADE" or offered by "G.M" for that "year" Corvette, then that part is original.
Only NCRS of "ALL" the car clubs in the world see or recognize a Corvette only as it came out of the factory. No accessories, option, no dealer added G.M parts.
But race cars! (a big right on- cool, sweet, love it)AND RECONGNIZE IT!
        (how nice)

If the Chevy clubs demanded this or any other club, you would never see a Continental spare wheel , fender skirt , rain sensors, shavers, and on and on. Those cars would look all the same as our Corvettes,if you see one restored 53 you've seen them all, why look at 56 more, they are all alike.
The C1, C2,C3,C4 and so on what is unusual? color ?,Oh yes engines, OK I've see many , soooo.
Could it be the reason some people make up (big blocks,FI,off road stuff, side covers, head rest and on and on and on ???)
People get such a kick out of asking and looking at the different options that were offered for and from that car manufacture . And if you think those accessories are cheep, think again. Are FI's, L88, head rest (CHEEP???) OK I sounded off again. I'm the bad guy, but I and many others love accessories.

I believe that you will find the key word is "normal dealer preparation". This included removing shipping wax, checking the fluids (or at least they were paid to do so), installing hubcaps if applicable, and a wash job.

Today we call it PDI.(pre delivery inspection) . It includes ,checking all fluids & air presure, filling gas tank, installing ALL accesories "shipped with the car from the factory" "floor mats, roof racks, antennas, spoilers, running boards, etc.A short road test is made when filling gas tank. If anything is found wrong it is repaired under warranty..... Bill

Supposedly happens. I have been around too many dealerships. Some techs do a wonderful job of PDI, some look to see if anything major is falling off and if not, it is ready to go.

                  Depends....

on where you're having your car judged and what the ground rules are. As others have said, the NCRS policy for factory concours is as delivered to the initial owner repleat with then-current dealer prep. This would include removal of the window sticker (visibility danger), installation of wheelcovers, protect-0-plate embossed with owner's name, Etc.

But, NCRS is not the only factory concours circuit for classic Corvettes.... The 'competition' (NCCB/Bloomington) has a slightly different ground rule. There the car is to be shown as it would have been viewed on the dealership showroom floor. Close but slightly different from NCRS!

The window sticker would be affixed (possible deductions for double sided Scotch tape holding the sticker to the window--it left the factory with two lines of rubber cement affixing it), the owner was unknown at that time and the protect-o-plate should be addressograph/multigraph embossed but NOT dymo label embossed with original owner info, all keys would have punch outs installed and be on factory original wire rings, Etc.

So, there are subtile differences in vehicle configuration/pressentation depending what factory concours circuit you're showing your car on and they do have a modest scoring impact. But, Rob, the question you asked is pretty well covered by the NCRS Judging Reference Manual (the 'white' book) as far as NCRS policy is concerned. However, if you venture outside the NCRS circuit, it's best to know the ground rules that apply on the other judging circuits as virtually nobody else puts as much info in writing as NCRS!!!

                    Jack,

Thanks, again for an excellent answer ! It's just that I haven't had the opportunity to visit a judging field yet that I come up with so many (maybe plane forward) questions.

                    greetings,
