    Windshield Question, Not Corvette

The good news is I wasn't driving the corvette with the original windshield when the dump truck dropped the rock. The bad news is I was driving the Volvo with the original windshield. It's not cracked, but it has a really deep wound.

Anybody have experience with guys who repair this stuff, trying to save the glass? I looked in the yellow pages and see a whole bunch, and I think some (Safelite) are national. I'd like to try to save this one. I have insurance, so cost of a new one is not the issue, but the glass is dated and I'd like to keep it original, in case there is a Volvo bowtie event someday.

    Thanks

As long as the ding isn't in your direct line-of-sight as you drive, those companies do a very good job. Most insurance companies will pay 100% and ignore the deductible as they are so much cheaper than a new windshield. However, if the damage is directly in front of the driver's normal sight line, take a pass as there will always be some slight waviness in their repair that will drive you crazy after a while. Good luck.

There may be an old Swedish folk song about a Volvo. The chorus talks about warped brake rotors.

Anyhow, my windshield has been condemed, so a new one is going in. Could have been worse, could have been a vette.
