I'm planning to have my '74 Coupe judged at an upcoming NCRS Regional Meet. I've heard mention of bonus points for certain items, i.e., fire extinguisher, etc. Can anyone share with me what some of the other bonus point items might be? Although I've read through all of the infomation provided to me with my recent NCRS Membership, I'm interested in hearing from those who've participated in having their cars judged at such events, with any (do and don't) suggestions that a person partcipating for the first time would find most helpful.

Re: NCRS Regional Meet/First Time Judging
Ray, I strongly suggest you contact the membership office in Cincinnati and order up an NCRS Judging Reference Manual, along with the Technical Information and Judging Guide for your car if you don't have one. The reference manual will help get you through your first judging experience. Quickly, the bonus points are 3 each for a fire thing I can't spell, 3 points for a battery cut-off switch and 3 for a small NCRS window decal = Or go for the brass ring by getting 10 points for all 3 items. Enjoy the judging by your fellow members.- Top

Re: NCRS Regional Meet/First Time Judging
That's a good sign of somebody using spell check on their computer, and putting too much faith in the results.
I think he meant battery disconnect. It doesn't have to be a green one, any switch will do.- Top

Re: NCRS Regional Meet/First Time Judging
Mike,
Thanks for explaining, are there any demands on where the switch should be located, e.g. under the dash or in the engine compartment ?
No additional points for an alarm system (also a sure mean of preserve the state the car is in ;-) ?
greetings,

Re: NCRS Regional Meet/First Time Judging
it's called sitting in front of a computer all day!
only said GREEN BATTERY DISCONNECT, as that is what I happen to have on my 1963, but there are many versions available, just do a GOOGLE search - the one I have is attached to one of the battery terminal cables - considered a SAFETY item, just like the fire extinguisherRick Aleshire

STRONGLY agree with Dennis!
Plus, reading through the rules of the road (what are owner's responsibilities and latitudes + what are judge's responsibilities and latitudes), will make you more at ease with the overall judging process. It's intended to be fun and informative and really can be that way when both sides of the process (owner and judges) are swinging on the same vine!!!!- Top

Rob, the purpose of the switch
is to kill all power to the vehicle, not just the ignition. The conventional way of doing this is to interrupt the circuit at the battery terminal. The green knob wonder that Rick referred to is advertised in the Driveline, IIRC.
In addition to the obvious safety factor and the judging points, having the battery disconnected during judging will avoid running it down while the doors are open and courtesy lights are on.- Top
