    Looks familiar ?

This car also has some features which I do seem to find back in one or two Corvette models. Especially the tail...

    greetings,
    Rob.

    It's Harley Earls Private Rocket.....

featured in July 1959 HOT ROD. The article states that the car was one of his last acts as GM Chief Stylist. Mr. Earl had a home in Palm Beach and we often saw his one-off Corvettes around town. I last saw this Olds powered roadster at a repair shop in West Palm Beach in the mid 1960's. Neat car. Jim Weeks Member #2978

Here's the first iteration of the same car before they re-skinned it; I shot this at Sebring in 1957.

The ill-fated transaxle was the basis of the proposed "Q Corvette" that was
cancelled along with the transaxle program circa 1959. Much of the Q Corvette styling was incorporated into the Sting Ray.

Ludvisgen's book has a good chapter on the Q Corvette.

          Hinckley's Photo Album - Wow!

          John

Thanks for a wonderful gem from your photo album!

I prefer the styling of this version. Is it still around?

            Who's driving it in Daytona?

Is Harley in any of the photos?

            Thanks

John - if you have many photos like that, you should consider publishing a book. What a great pic!!

Here's Fitch hard at work at the start - note that the laboriously hand-fabricated louvered magnesium side exhaust covers have already been ripped off the car, to the horror of all the GM Styling hangers-on watching from the upper deck (they outnumbered the GM engineers about ten to one)
