    C2 temp senders Lectric Limited

Has anyone had success with this new temp sender? My 66 gauge reads about 140F ( 1/8" off full left) when actual is 180F as measured by IR gun. I've replaced sender and cleaned contacts as best possible at back of gauge with same result; 140F. Thought I'd try above before pulling cluster.

I have no experience with that particular sender, but here's a quick way to check the gauge without pulling it.

Get a few resistors from your local electronics hobby store. Remove the wire from the sender and hook it to one side of the resistor. Ground the other side of the resistor. With a resistor around 42 ohms, the gauge should read at redline. With around 120 ohms, the gauge should read 180 to 190. With 200 ohms (210 is a standard, I think) the gauge should read 130 to 140. There is a graph of resistance vs. temp that is available from one of the club websites. I believe the article was written by Jack Humphrey. You may find a reference to it in the archives or Jack may respond here. You can use 1/4 watt resistors.

I just installed a Lectric Limited sender in my 1965 L75 two weeks ago. I used an inexpensive IR gun to check its accuracy and found it only slightly off. (seems to read +10 to the hot side)

Article with temp sender's transfer function was in Sept-Oct issue of the Rocky Mtn Chapter's newsletter (2-years ago). All RMC newsletters are available free of charge by logging onto our website (www.ncrsrmc.org) and pulling a download in Adobe .PDF format.

          Rich,
Thanks for the tip. The 47 ohm resistor pegged the meter and a 120 ohm resistor indicated around 140 F again. 200 ohm barely moved it. No need to try another sender, looks like the meter to me.
