    Spring has sprung

    Car's been sitting all winter.
Any input on the sping oil change:
Start it up; warm engine, change oil/filter; drive
    OR
Change oil/filter, start it up, warm engine, drive

    This is what I do.

    1. Change oil and filter and fill new filter with oil before installation.

    2. remove coil wire or dist hot wire and crank engine until there is oil pressure. If the car has not been started for a long time, I pour a little Marvel Mystery Oil down the carb before cranking.

    3. When engine starts, I drive it slowly around the block keeping the RPM around 1500 to 2000 until it's warmed up.

Yesterday I had my 64 out for a top down ride. The 365 revs over 6000 RPM in a hart beat. What a rush.

Assuming you changed the oil and filter prior to winter storage (which should be a normal part of winter storage prep), there is no need to change the oil again. Fresh oil doesn't "age" sitting in the crankcase over the winter anymore than it does in the bottle.

Suggest you use a syringe to inject a few ccs of fuel into the carb bowls through the vents. Then just do a normal cold start.

There is plenty of oil in the bearings and no need to go through any exotic starting procedure.

Assuming you drive the car no more than a few thousand miles during the driving season there is no need to change the oil and filter again until you prep it for next winter's storage.

          Lenn,

I don't believe in letting a car idle to "warm up". Once oil pressure is up, then I warm up the entire vehicle slowly until normal operating temperature is achieved.

Thanks for all the warm-up techniques, but what the real question is that, after sitting all winter, should I warm it up before I change the oil or change the oil and then warm it up

Change the oil without starting it. Just takes a little while longer to drain.

Thank you. Sometimes the simple things are the most difficult.
After I removed the cannister assembly, it slipped out of my hands and I had springs, washers, etc all over. Couldn't find any manual that broke down how they went back together. The AIM only pointed to somewhere else that I didn't understand. The '61 manual at least gave me the torque range for the bolt (20-25) and I filled the cannister with oil (why doesn't it come out I don't know).

Hey, I'm used to a spin-on filter, not this 8,000 pound cannister (poetic license on that weight).
