C1 ('62) Engine Cast Date

I'm considering an engine block with an early September, 1961 casting date for my car with a December 20, 1961 build date. The block would have been cast about 3 1/2 months before it was installed in my car. Don't know what the number pad says, but I would probably surface it anyway. I'd rather have it blank than wrong.

I realize that 3 1/2 months is within the 6 month judging window. But I'm wondering if there was anything unusual or remarkable where this was so early and in the first year for the 327.

i'd keep looking for a cast date closer to your 62's build date. about a month ideal. remember that 62 chevy pass cars didn't stamp vin # on their pads, just the machine assembly data. some pass car suffixes can be converted to vet suffixes. make sure you get a flint cast 870, mike

I hate to admit it, but I agree with McCagh. (please don't spread that around)That block, although NCRS acceptable, is really too early for the car. 2-4 weeks is much more normal and reasonable. My 62 #3390, an end of November car, had original motor cast 11/21 and assembled 11/22.
