3247 carb choke setting and whistling

I am experiencing a couple of issues I would like to get worked out.

1. The choke setting comes on when cold and pulls off when warm. When I start the car the car runs very rough and smells very rich. This lasts until the choke pulls off. Is there a setting to adjust?

2. When the car gets hot the carb whisteles a very high pitch. I replaced the base gasket and did not help. The car maintains a good idle at 900 rpm and performs well in all levels off use. Could I have a bad gasket some where? It is quite annoying.

Ok, the choke lever needs to be adjusted a twinge. I believe you have a diverce chock, that is you have a coil and a lever to activate the choke. When cold, you should have an 1/8" clearance between the plate and the body. Use a 1/8" drill for this measurement. If you don't have any clearance, use needle nose pliers and bend the curved rod link that is attached choke diaphram.

The whistling sound; check your vacuum hoses for split ends.
