    66 Ball Joint Questions

I've just completed rebuilding and restoring the front suspension components of my 1966 convertible. My questions involve the ball joints. On the lower ball joint, there is a step cut into the outer surface about 3/8" from where the joint mates with the control arm. Does the boot rest on this step, or should it be pulled up to cover the entire portion of the joint below the control arm?

Also, is there any special procedure for initial lubrication? Is standard lithium-based grease adequate? How do I ensure that I don't over-grease the joint?

As always, thanks for your responses.

The rubber boot should be pulled on as far as possible. Give the joint some grease.... don't fill the boot. Probably a quick shot or two from a hand grease gun will do the trick.
