    Clutch head screwdriver (more)

I used the Snap-on on-line catalog for the information in the above post. Unfortunately, it leaves something to be desired as far as complete information goes. The paper catalog has a silhouette of the tool shape.
You want clutch head type G (also called figure 8 or butterfly screws) as the notation by the SDDC5 ($13.55) screwdriver shows in the paper catalog. For a single bit SDM244G ($3.55) is what you want.

i also have a UPSON plus my good old sears. one thing nice about the EPSON you can put a wrench on the hex shank if the screws are really tight as the sears has a round shank

LICS has the 5/32" size, and Corvette Central has a set of three different sizes for $13.00. I have a set of five very nice ones I bought about eight years ago that are marked "KAL" (whoever that is). I also have a set of about ten clutch bits (hex base) I got a few years ago from "Apex" Industrial, which is where assembly plants buy their bits and sockets; the rep had to special-order them (not stocked locally), but Apex makes every kind of socket and bit you can imagine.

When you go to a hardware store and ask about "clutch-heads", they ask if that's someone from "Saturday Night Live" - obviously, they never worked on a C1 or a Holley metering plate.

              Re: Rebuilding 69 Tripower Carborators

Terry, I also have one odd, red-handled (maybe I should say red-headed) clutch head screwdriver in my tool box. It is the legacy of bygone days in RVing (some old Star Craft pop-ups used a few clutch head screws). Those interested in finding a clutch head screwdriver might try RV supply stores; that's where I found mine...but that was decades ago.

This was great, I did a search on Google and found a number of hits for clutch screwdrivers.

                  Thanks

                    Clutch-head screwdrivers at Sears

I bought a set of Clutch-head screwdrivers at Sears not too awfully long ago. Every time I'm at Sears, they jump in my sights and remind me of my first Corvette, a 1954.
