    Heat groove in intake

Joe you recomended drilling and tapping the holes each end of the heat groove and puting in pipe plugs. I was working on it last night cleaning and so on and put a 7/16 bolt in the hole to check size, fit perfect. Now my question is why can't I install a couple 7/16 freeze plugs into those holes? It seems a lot eaiser, but if you don't think it will work for some reason please advise and again thanks for all the help.

expansion plugs will work and it is the way to go if the manifold is still on the engine because if you tap for threads the chips can get into the cylinders thru the heat passage in the head.

I've used 7/16" freeze plugs to plug the "hot-slot" holes in several 783 intakes - worked fine.

        Tom-----

I think the reason that I recommend the drilling and tapping is because that's what I did. The reason that I did it that way was because I never thought of the drive-in soft plug method. I think that the drive-in soft plug method will work just as good and it's much easier and safer to do with the manifold installed on the engine. With the carb off, it should be about a 5 minute job.
