Re: AZ wheels
Sequence on the outside of the rim should read "K 1 X" some space "YY" the valve stem hole then "ZZ AZ" where K is the supplier code (Kelsey Hayes), 1 is the mfgr plant ID, "X" is the year of mfgr digit. The "YY" is either a single or dual digit code for month of year. On the other side of the valve stem hole, "ZZ" is a singel or dual digit code for the day of the month and "AZ" is the suffix ID for a Corvette rally wheel.
Note, Kelsey Hayes continued to build/ship these wheels both to GM and to independent dealers for MANY years. There were also identifying codes stamped on the inside of the rim, but these would be hidden by mounted tires. Go by what's stamped on the outer rim near the valve stem hole as that's what judges use to assess originality and a full text description of what I've said can be found in your copy of the Judging Guide....- Top

Re: AZ wheels
Jack,
Thanks but my question was why do these have the AZ but before that they have K 182 8 Valve stem 27 AZ ?? Whats with the K182? It's also by a lug opening K182 instead of just KH? I have pics of this and had asked for the other wheels codes but the seller hasn't sent them. This doesn't make sense! Did anyone look at the listing? It's over now but would still like to know what was up with these wheels. I can send pics to anyone who would like to take a look at what I have that he did send. pacabada@verizon.net- Top

Re: AZ wheels
Paul, "AZ" is the type of wheel, i.e. 15" OD X 8" wide. It was installed on Corvettes from 69 to 82.
The "K182" has nothing to do with the TYPE of wheel. As Jack explained, the "K182" stamp indicates the manufacturer (K=Kelsey Hayes), the product line (1=Chevrolet) and year manufactured (82). The "8" on the left side of the valve stem hole is the month manufactured, and the "27" on the right side of the valve stem hole is the day of manufacture.
This was probably a replacement wheel, manufactured August, 27, 1982. There are lots of replacement wheels out there. For judging, you only need the spare dated correctly; the dates on the mounted wheels are obscured by the trim rings.
The "K182" stamp is no different from those on wheels manufactured in earlier years, except that the year was shown as two digits rather only the last digit. The wheels on my 70, for example, are stamped "K10" where K=Kelsey Hayes, 1=Chevrolet, 0=70.
As for the seller not sending you more codes, he probably didn't know what you meant. All other stamps should be the same for all AZ wheels, and are not really important...if you get the date right, then everything else will be right.- Top

Re: AZ wheels
Chuck,
Thanks for the reply. I never realized they still made these in 82! They just looked so different in terms of the code to my AG wheels that I have to the stampings inside the wheel and outside on the face. Makes sense now that they were manufactured in 82.
