    '71 Tire- White Stripe Width

I just mounted a new set of Coker Firestone Super Sport F70-15 white stripes (Patrick- not to worry, it didn't have the original tires on it). I figured these were the right tire for the '71, but the whitewall is a full 1/2 in. wide, versus the 3/8 in. the TIM&JG notes. Although I didn't notice it 'til I put one on, it doesn't look quite right on the car either.

Is there another source for this tire (I know there is for the Goodyear) that I missed? Did the Corvette get a special tire versus that used for other high performance cars of the era? THANKS.

To my limited knowledge, the Goodyear is the closest reproduction being made. The source is Kelsey Tire in MO. The repro Firestones differ in carcass construction, nomenclature on the sidewalls, white wall width, tread design.

      I'd comment, but....

I doubt more than one source exists for this tire in the reproduction world. It's likely too expensive for more than one company to tool up. Whether or not it's correct, my suspicion is that you have the "best" there is.

        Charlie,
I have those same tires on my '72. They are a 3/8" white stripe. Love the way they look (for vintage reasons) hate the way they ride. I saved the stickers mine were shipped with. They are a Firestone part# C-F116, but on the Coker invoice it reads stock #62460 F70-15 "Firestone--Pin White". "For 72 Vette. Customer sure about size, wants bias pinstripe".
Perhaps they stock two styles. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Al. My stickers and paperwork mimick yours, except substututes '71 for '72. The stripes are definitely 1/2" wide, though. When did you get yours? Can you verify that measurement or send me a digital pic? If, so email cjpetty@goes.com. THANKS AGAIN.
