Upon reassembly of my '58, the amp gage registers in the reverse. Details: Gage connections varified per the schematic and the wire bundle diagrams in the ST-12 and the '58 AIM, generator has been polarized, at 1400RPM the output volage is 13.9, Amp gage reads + 10 on stater and -5 with engine running, no fuses installed in fuse block. Related problem?? H20 gage bumps up a bit when the key is turned on but does not register further when the engine warms up, sending unit tests good on ohms through range(enernaly tested with meter and hot water). I suspect swapping the connnections on the Amp gage will give me the proper reading(change in field direction and induced voltage flow, etc), but what's really wrong?

Re: C1 Amp gage
I recall reading on the discussion board that the wiring diagram is backwards for the amp guage connections. I'm sure others posters will confirm.- Top

Re: C1 Amp gage
Nicholas is correct. The wiring diagram is incorrect and the wires must be reversed. If memory serves me right, the resistance of the temperature sender should be about 90 ohms at 200 degrees. If it reads around that, then your gauge is to blame.

Re: C1 Amp gage
Thanks fellows on the Amp gage issue. That's an easy fix. The H2O sender was 84 ohms at 2oo F so I figued it was not the sender. Something else to buy I guess, although I might take it apart and see if it's a movment or coil problem. Say, are there any other mis-identified wiring "issues"?- Top

Re: C1 Amp gage
Ed, the diagrams are the same as the ones in the A.I.M. and ST-12, except they show the correction for the reversal of the ammeter connections. They show the same circuit for the park brake warning lamp for '58-'60 and '61-'62; tan feed from the fuse block to the switch, and from the switch to the grounded lamp in the cluster.- Top

Re: C1 Amp gage
John,
My copy of the ST-12 is about 30 years old. It was falling apart, so I had to put it in a loose leaf binder a few years back. Now it is about to come apart again. Maybe time for a new copy! Antway, the '61-'62 diagram in my ST-12 shows the flasher unit in the park brake circuit just like the '58-'60. As you know, the flasher was replaced by a flashing bulb beginning in '61. The wiring diagram in my '61 AIM has the same error, but there is a change page in the AIM itself dated April, 1960 that shows the change. Perhaps you have a newer copy ofthe ST-12 that reflects the change.
Another wiring diagram glitch is on the '61-'62 enlarged diagram sold by Lectric Limited. On the rear lamp harness, at the connector between the headlamp switch and the rear harness, they have a couple of wires crossed.- Top
