67 SB fuel line ( pump to carb )

The fuel line on my L-79 is not correct and uses an inline filter. I put a magnet on it and it sticks really good. When I put the magnet on the line from the tank to the pump it hardly sticks at all. If I'm going to replace the current pump to carb line is it best to use SS or plain steel. The line from the tank was replaced at time of frame off. Is there a way to tell if it is SS or plain steel.

I think you have already done the test and have the answer. A magnet will stick like crazy to an original steel hot-tin dipped line. SS is incorrect for judging, looks non-original and is more difficult to seal at he joints. Oh, I forgot, it costs more too...

      Bill,

Thanks for your response. It appears then that the line from the tank is SS. With todays fuels is there any reason why SS would hold up better than the original steel hot-tin dipped line ?

No, especially given the environmental exposure (or lack of) that these cars typically see today.
