Installed a new tach side gear, started the engine and the tach started working and then quit. I think I remember someone saying that you might need to add another washer between the coupler and the side gear when you install another one. Is this right? ANy suggestions? Thanks

Re: C3 Tach Side Gear
Generally, when the tach gear is broken, it takes the gear on the distributor shaft with it and they need to be replaced as a set. Usually the housing will need some repair at this time also to prevent the problem from recurring.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: C3 Tach Side Gear
The tach cable could be at fault. Disconnect the tach cable from the distributor and if you have a piece of an old speedometer cable you could insert a end piece of it into the tack drive and start he car and verify your gear is turning. The end of a tack drive cable could become out of shape and not turn with the tach gear. You could use a electic drill on the disonnected tach cable and test out the tach. You mentioned installing a new tach side gear. If this was done because the old tach side gear was damaged the distributor shaft would most likely need replacement as well.- Top
