    C1 Chassis Finish Questions

    58 standard brakes and springs 245hp w/ powerglide What are the correct finishes for:
    Leaf springs
    leaf spring shackles
    leaf spring U bolts/nuts
    forward leaf spring mounting bracket / bolts / eyebolt
    driveshaft (also is it stenciled twice like in Joe Tripoli's book pic of a 59?)
    Powerglide drive shaft yoke
    rear diff yoke

    Can you add flattener to Eastwood's chassis black?

    Ken,
    You would be hard pressed to improve on just a semi-gloss black on all the items that you have listed. The entire chassis was sprayed with a cheap, petroleum-based blackout paint prior to body drop. The driveshaft was painted black before the stencil was applied to it, and sometimes the stencil was covered up in the chassis blackout process depending on which way it was facing when the blackout was done. I like leaving my stencil showing, and I have never taken a point deduct for it. I prefer to use a modern urethane black like PPG DCC product. I then flatten it to the proper gloss by using the correct PPG flattening agent. I like the durability of the urethane paint, and it is a very long term paint for a chassis.

      Hi!

      I agree with John on the use of PPG products. I use DP-90 on all prepped metal parts and then final coat using Delstar/Dethane Acrylic Enamels with a hardener additive. I also use a flatten agent to achieve the desired sheen.
