ANything tricky in the removal and replacement of the distributor shaft in a 1970 Corvette? My tach side gear is in bad shape so I am going to replace the shaft assuming it is bad as well. If it is not difficult I will remove it and inspect it first. Thanks for the help.

Re: C3 Distributor Shaft
Same as any chevy. knock out the pin that holds the gear on the shaft, the gear comes out one end and the shaft out the other. Remember to inspect the cavity the crossgear runs in for sings on wear at the bottom. That is the usual cause of a bad gear.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: C3 Distributor Shaft
Also, as Bill can tell you from my own distributors, realize that if you buy a current reproduction distributor shaft you WILL have to recurve your distributor. Even if you buy the one alleged for your motor, it will differ in the autocam (the piece on top that affects advance) and just replacing the shaft without recurving will cause problems.
If the distributor is this bad (i.e. bad shaft, bad crossgear, etc), consider replacing all the parts yourself and then having it recurved by someone (like Bill or others on the board), OR consider just sending it off to a rebuilder like High Tech Innovations in FL (or again, I know Bill will do the whole thing too).
And aside from the 4 distributors Bill has done for me (3 Corvette, 1 Cutlass), I have no connection with him and get no kickbacks.
