    Installing Oil Pan Baffle

I will soon be installing the baffle in the pan of my '65 365HP smallblock. I already bought the special studs from Paragon. Are they up to par, or should I be looking elsewhere for stronger studs? Does GM still offer them? Also, how will I be able to measure the torque on them with a box wrench? If I buy a box wrench socket for my torque wrench, will that work AOK? How important is the baffle, really, in terms of power gain, and is there something better that I could use.

Now, there is another, better reason that I am doing this. The cheapo oil fill tube that I bought from Z** broke off, and so I figured rather than fiddle around trying to remove the stub from the block, that I would go in and install the baffle and inner dipstick tube that I left out when I built up the engine. This time I bought the "correct" tube with the tapered end, and "correctly marked" dipstick from Paragon. So, I'll be "killing" three birds with one stone. Is the 2 3/16" pump bolt still available from GM?
    Thanks in advance.

use a deep 11/16 socket. (suggest 6 point)
Paragon may resell the GM studs. suggest you check.
if you ever run over 4500 rpm, I suggest using the baffle to reduce oil splash on the crank.

        Joe------

I'll bet that Paragon is supplying the GM studs. These are of the part number that Clem mentioned and they're still available for a current GM list of $13.50/each. As Bill mentioned, you can torque these to spec using a DEEP, 6-point socket. The studs are designed so that most deep sockets will clear the stud extension.

The 2-3/16" long oil pump bolt for your application is GM #3754998 and it's still available from GM for a list price of $7.36/each.
