We Need Quality Articles for The Restorer

With all the great technical information being passed to members and non members on the Discussion Board, some of you may have forgotton that only about 200 NCRS members are actually participating on this board. We still have over 14,000 others that are not online or reading the Discussion Board.

That beings me to the point. We are in desperate need for quality articles for The Restorer. We currently only have enough quality articles to publish the Fall issue. We don't have enough articles to continue with the quality of the publication without your support and submission of articles.

Certainly there are some of you out there, that instead of posting the great technical advise to members on the board, could make it available to the other 14,000 members of this great organization by submitting an article for publication.

    Please consider it.

    Thanks,

    Vinnie Peters

        Restorer Articles: Alternate Content

        Vinnie,

I notice that many of the entries both here and on the CRPL deal with real world problems encountered while driving and maintaining the old cars in todays environment. Specific example: How best to convert a 1972 A/C unit to use the 134a instead of R12. -or- How to insulate the floor with new technology materials. -or- Which radial tire comes closest to original appearance while benefitting from the great riding and handling characteristics of modern tire technology. Now the concern is, would articles of this nature find a welcome home in the NCRS Restorer? I am aware that the NCRS has a special focus on how the cars were originally constructed. However, I suspect that for every NCRS garage queen there are 100 street driven real world cars being driven by folks who have a very real desire to derive the benefits of modern technology in the overall envelope of their "older" Corvette. Is it possible that the NCRS would expand it's focus to include this set of enthusiasts? If so, then articles as mentioned above might find a welcome home.

Thanks for taking the time of consideration. JackNCRS#896

            Re: Restorer Articles: Alternate Content

A well received Restorer article from a few years back dealt with tires. What were the original rubber dimensions? What's available in service replacement tires from various sources? What's 'best' for driving vs. concours show? What are things to beware of in 'tricking' out your factory stock wheel wells?

Point is article got published, was well received, and is still used by NCRS folks today. Some think NCRS is a 'stuffed shirt' organization of factory concours ONLY folks. That's far from the truth. We believe in restoration/preservation.

In the 'preservation' vein, our Founder's Award FORCES owner to use/drive his car with focus on 3rd Flight minimum originality/condition, 96% operational integrity, and ACTUAL USE of car on the road to/from Chapter, Regional, and National meets. So, there's a recognition category at NCRS for owners from all walks of life as well as Corvette interest. Hence, Restorer IS interested in contributions from other than factory/stock source(s).

Re: We Need Quality Articles for The Restorer

I've seen some DARN GOOD articles published by various NCRS Chapter Newsletters. My suggestion is to 'exercise' the office(s) of Chapter Newsletter Editor, ask 'em to feed, say, 'top three' local articles they've published in last 'x' years for National re-publication, and maybe give 'brownie' points for Chapter Of the Year, Etc. for the effort.

You know, the most time consuming job in all of NCRS is the Newsletter Editor's. It'd be nice to have some form of workshop at our National Convention and a form of recognition to these 'locals' that work their guts out for us....
