    C3 Build Dates

On page 1 of the Tech and Judging Guide it states that the 1st 69's were built in August, yet on page 93 it only lists the ending SN for Sept. as if it was the 1st month of production. So on a 69 with an ending SN of 701363, was it built in August or Sept.?
Or is it that they are seperating the body build date from the actual date of completion since on page 1 they're referring to the trim tags versus pages 93 the SN.

And would the correct altenator for this car be an 1100859? Even though it was built in 68.It's a 350/300 eng. Or a 1100693 from 68?

Just want to make sure I'm reading it right etc..

    Paul-----

Some 1969 Corvettes may have been built in late August, 1968. Those cars would carry an "A" prefix code on the trim tag for body build and an "8" on the Protecto-O-Plate for an August completion date. However, I am very confident that 1363 was completed in September for both body and final assembly. This would be confirmed by, if you have it, the Protecto-O-Plate. The second line, extreme right should have a "9" for a September, 1968 assembly month.

GM #1100859 is the correct alternator and I am quite confident that even very early 1969 300/350 used this alternator. This is an internal regulator alternator as all 1969s were equipped with. 1968 alternators were external regulator type and I don't think that any were used for 1969 models.

      Paul,
The first month of 1969 production was august 1968, and those cars will have AXX for the body build date on the trim tag. There is no serial number listed for August 1968 end of month in the TIM&JG because Chevrolet didn't publish one. Enjoy your Corvette.

          C3 Build Dates-1st 100 '69's/last 100 '68's

Wasn't something posted about approximately the first 100 '69's actually being 68's? Or was it the last 100 '68's actually built as '69's?

            Re: C3 Build Dates

OK, sounds good. So on the alternator, whats going to be a correct date code for a car built in Sept of 68? Whats the timeline for these dates previous to production? 4 to 5 months as in the wheels or the actual month in which the code should read 8JX X representing the day.

            Thanks for the help.

              Paul------

NCRS guidelines allow for up to 6 months prior to the car's build for alternator dates. The original '859' alternator on my original owner, mid-September, 1969 built Corvette is "9F 26" (May 26, 1969). So, in this case, there was about a 4 month interval between alternator build and assembly of the vehicle that it was originally installed in.

By the way, if you are looking for an 859 alternator (or, for that matter, ANY 1969 Corvette alternator), be advised that they are VERY difficult to find and EXPENSIVE when you locate one. For 1969, the internal regulator type, SI series alternator was used for Corvettes ONLY. Therefore, all "donors" had to have come originally from a Corvette. Plus, even if the "numbers" are not important to you, the 69 alternator case configuration, both front and rear case halves, was unique to 1969 (and, possibly, very early 1970 models).

                Correction

The alternator assembly date of "9F 26" refers to a JUNE, 26, 1969 assembly date and NOT MAY. So, there is about a 3 month interval and NOT a 4 month interval.
