    70 Rear Shock Mount

I am trying to remove the rear shock mount using PB Blaster to soak it free.I also bought a 4 inch knocker that threads onto the threaded end of the mount.Giving it a few blows still no luck.Tryed relieving some tension with a jack under the spindle ears.Do not want to use a torch due to rear gas tank and weakening the steel ears and mount. Is it any easier to reinstall the shock mount? Extremely tight fit.
I want to change out strut rods 1 at a time.Does the Strut rod bracket and its 4 bolts holding it to the Differential need to be removed? It appears that removing the cam bolt nut and washers the rod will be able to come out once the rod is removed from the ears.

I'd use a puller on loan from the zone *NM*

I have removed many shock mounts by laying a ball joint fork against the 90 deg stud where the lower shock attaches and hammering the fork forward with a large hammer. This pulls the mount out rather than pushing it. Knock on wood I have yet to damage a mount with this method.

Suggest you disconnect the rear spring during this process. It will de-load some pressure on the mount if the struts are still attached at the center and make installations of the new struts much easier. Besides you probably need to replace the spring link cushions anyway.

You said you are replacing the Struts so I also suggest removing the eccentric bolt and center bracket first. The bracket is attached to the rear with four 3/8 bolts. The rear camber will need to be realigned with the new struts.

I also want to mention that I have yet to heat anything while removing the mounts.

      Good luck
