    Re: head casting dates?

Both are '66 heads, the 461 is the earlier head and is dated Jan. 5, 1966. The 462 is a later head which is dated April 11, 1966.

All the numbers (except the right side exhaust manifold) and dates would work for a 1966 Corvette. Even though the heads are of different casting numbers, given the fact that (1) they are functionally equivalent, (2) March/April was the "changeover" period and, (3) the engine was built in early April, 1966, they could both have been installed on the same engine at Flint Engine.

What is the VIN derivative, if any, on the stamp pad?

The car is a 64. The engine stamp pad has no VIN, only F04I2HCH.

VIN deriv. not on Pass Cars?

The HCH indicates a big chevy with PG. Why no serial number on the pad?

I thought that by 1966 passenger cars had the VIN derivative on all engines. Earlier, they had them only for engines of 300 hp and greater. Perhaps, the "300 hp and greater" rule included 1966. If so, since this engine was a 275 hp, it wouldn't "qualify".
