Can anyone please identify this fan which is currently on my 69 350 300hp
4spd A/C car .....3955182 9141 6A69......this fan has 7 blades and these numbers are stamped on the face of the blade.
Many thanks
Asley Webb
It could very well be the correct and original fan for your car. There is some dispute regarding whether or not the 3955182 was used for 300 hp with A/C. It was definitely used for 350 hp with A/C and all 427s with A/C. I think that it very likely was used for some or all 300hp with A/C, too. Given the 1969 date code on yours, I'd say that's another clue that it's original to the car.
Thanks Joe and Rick for your help.
I was a little confused because the 1969 Stingray Guidebook states that
a 4 blade fan with a completely different part number was used for a car
optioned as mine.
Absolutely NO 4 blade fan was ever used for ANY 1969 Corvette. Period. A 5 blade fan was used for most 1969 applications, except A/C. All A/C cars with L-46, L-36, and L-68 got the 3955182 7 blade fan. The "controversy" occurs over 300 hp with A/C. They were "supposed" to get the 5 blade fan used for most other 1969 applications. However, I think that some or all got the 3955182. Your car would tend to support that belief since it seems correctly dated for your car.
The 3955182 replaced the 5 blade fans for SERVICE in the early 70s, so many cars originally equipped with the 5 blade could have been "converted" when they required a new fan blade assembly (or, their repair shop THOUGHT that they needed a new fan blade assembly). This adds to the "confusion".
Joe:
My '69 300 HP w/AC automatic has the original fan and clutch and it has a 5 blade fan. It is an October '68 build. Hope this information helps.
Jeff
Yes, that's good information. If any 69s with 300 hp and C-60 were built with 5 blade fans, I would more expect them to be early cars and that's what you have. However, I think that throughout the model year they likely could have been built with either the 5 blade or 7 blade.
