tires for 1970

my 1970 corvette has p235-60-15 tires on custom wheels which are not attractive.
i want to use 15" x 8" rally wheels and something like radial ta's to replace
these.
i am looking for suggestions on what size tire to use- i was thinking 225-70r15.
could i go larger without clearance problems?

please advise me based on experience. thank you.

225-70R-15 are commonly used on early C3s. I personally think they are too wide. The judging guide says 215-70R-15 are the closest to original bias size F70-15, and I would agree, although there can be a significant variance between manufacturers.

I think the 225-70R is good for 1978-82, but looks out of scale on a '70. If your car is essentially stock, I wouldn't put an over-sized tire on it-my opinion.

I put a set of 225R70X15 Michlein X1's on a '72 with no clearance problems. O.D is very close to F-70X15 OEM tires.

Ray I have had a set of Goodyear Eagle GT 255-60-15's on my 70 for many years. Some would not believe the mileage I have on the tires. I will probably replace them with Goodyear Eagle GT II's of the same size.
