    C2 Components that Rust

For judgement purposes, is it allowable to treat the normal unpainted components with rust inhibitor or other coatings to maintain a nicer look. Parts such as master cyl, steering box, linkages, exh manifolds, and steel sections of side pipes, etc. If so, what are some good products? Joe Pearson.

Joe;I remember reading somewhere in this forum that spraying a clear or slightly translucent rust inhibtor on the types of parts you mentioned would be fine on a judged car,but you might get another opinion on it,I dont have my car judged so it is not an issue for me .I use a product called S100 rust inhibitor,it sprays on,it seems to be a light parifin based spray,it's used on classic motorcycles that sit a lot to protect chrome and polished cases etc.it works great underneath my car on things like calipers, any other unprotected part.it dulls the appearence of chrome and the polished cases but is all but invisible on bare metal parts.Hope this helps!.Jordan

Where can either the S100 or Pre-Lube 6 be purchased?

            Thanks,

Quanta sells Pre-Lube 6. Don't know about the other one. Cosmoline makes a product called Weatherwax that is for rust inhibiting. I've used it and it also does a good job. I got it from Eastwood a few years ago.

S100 is made in Germany, but is manufactured for Brookside import specialities in Branford Ct.06405.The can I have says it is a "Smartparts"product. There are many S100 products, but the one we are interested in is their "corrosion protectant"Jordan

You might try krylon's new matte clear,I,ve been using it for a few months from Sherwin Williams, and now it came out in a spray can,In the shop use, you can mix clear and matte clear to get the desired dull,semi-flat,semi-gloss for each parts need.

I feel any Krylon product is basically a "paint"by nature and will react like paint to the elements, especially under a car where they are subject to salt, dust, and especially pebbles and grit(which you will have even driving your car on a nice day!)"time"also will work on a paint product in a negative way. This "S100"is not paint at all,its a thin waxy coating that as it drys gets harder but not so hard it would crack,it remains pliable because of its paraffin make up.

I have used the Krylon satin clear but it won't hold up in the humidity we have on the Texas Gulf Coast.
