    66 BB engine detail color

Hello, can anyone tell me on the 66 427 if the french locks and exh manifold bolt heads should be painted orange?? I have seen different combinations of this. I believe the french locks should be but not sure on these and other bolt heads on the engine. Thanks, Joe Pearson

The '67 Judging Manual says the exh manifolds, bolts, washers, locks, were painted orange. You probably have seen both ways because overspraying of the manifold area looks like "shade tree work" on a highly detailed engine especially after some of it has burned away, so those who like sharp detail are willing to take a point deduct by not painting the overspray in this area. I personally like to have a "shiny orange paint job" on my engine.... again not "purist" correct, but it sure is easier to care for (clean) down the road. My restoration has been described as a "preservation" rather than a "restoration" by judges.... meaning that I try to clearcoat things so that rust is not an issue in 6 months on non-coated/raw metal items...... I trade a few points for ease of maintenance.......just a personal "thing"
