Hello,

Any insight as to the quality of reproduction small instrument gauges for a '66 compared to original GM?
Are the gauges easy to change once the cluster is out?

The gauges are easy to change with the cluster on the bench. While apart you'll want to clean up the gauge faces and possibly repaint the blue/green background behind the gauges. You may also want to repaint the needles on the speedo and tach. Also replace all the bulbs...even if they are still working. You can also repaint the cluster black. Tape off the chrome around the edge. paint the entire cluster and then go back and scrape the chrome around the gauges with your fingernail as well as the various lettering. It comes off the chrome real easy when its freshly dried.
I can't answer the quality issue... try a comparison of the old and new for correct lettering etc. Maybe you can strike a deal with a vendor that if you aren't satisfied you can return the gauges. Explain what your concerns are before you purchase... a good vendor should be able to tell you honestly how good his gauges are. I believe Long Island Corvette would give you a fair assessment as well as others.
