Sarasota, FL. looking for a contact...........

I'm going to be in Sarasota next week, and was wondering if anyone knows of a contact for the NCRS scene, or old car events, cruise nights, etc.

I'd like to do at least one Corvette / Muscle Car related thing while I'm down there.

    Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris, Here's a link to a page that lists cruise-ins around the Tampa/St. Pete area almost every night of the week. One of the best north of Tampa is the Wednesday night event in Hudson but the location changed. I'll get info if your interested in that one. It's sponsored by the Mopar club but it's for all cars and it's a lot of fun. www.westcoastmopar.com/cruise.htm

      Chris--

you are probably a week too early. there is a very good corvette show to be held in Sarasota at St. Armand's circle on May 1. On April 24-25 there is a big show at Bob Taylors Chevrolet in Fort Myers Beach which is about 100 miles south. This latter show will have a corvette from each year displayed as well as some displays provided by GM.The Naples Corveete club has an NCCC event there on saturday and is the source for many of the corvettes.By the way, the Ringling Bros Art Museum in Sarasota is a first class attraction but it is not vette related.

        Don,

I live in Sarasota and am looking forward to the St.Armand's show. Always great.

Also thought I'd run to Ft Myers Beach on Sunday for the show at Bob Taylor Chevrolet. Is this listed under a different name? Alltel Info and the internet yellow pages do not have a listing.

        Thanks for your help.

          Pat

Actually bob Taylor chev is located technically in Naples not Fort Myers. It is located on airport pulling road near Pine Ridge road. According to mapquest it is 117 miles to Naples from Sarasota but it is on the north side of Naples. I also am looking forward to the St. Armand circle show. I am not bringing my 55 as the show is fully booked. A lot of us are coming from Naples.

            Chris--

Another spot to see super vettes and muscle cars (as well as some other oldies and goodies) is in tarpon springs which according to mapquest is only 67 miles from Sarasota. There is a combination musemum (that has a lot of old neat cars) and car showroom that has muscle cars for sale which include a lot of vettes. Tarpon Springs also I hear is quaint.

The place in Tarpon Springs is called Classic Corvettes. You can check out their website and decide if it's worth the trip. They charge admission to come in and look around ($8 I think)and their prices make Barrett Jackson look like a bargain. Maybe a dozen 'Vettes tops, but tons of muscle cars.

The Bob Taylor show would be about an hour and fifteen minute drive for you. Very easy to get to. Just go south on I-75 to the pine ridge rd. exit. turn right go west to Airport Pulling Rd. make a right 1 block on your left. There is a traffic light at the entrance to Bob Taylor and you will want to be in the left lane after you make your right on to Airport Rd.

You can also log onto cruisenewsonline.com. this is a cruising magazine that covers most of Florida and lists most of the crusies by day of the week and also monthly cruises.

I just returned from a 2 week vacation in the tampa bay area.Sarasota to tarpon springs is worth the drive 1.25 hrs max,They have the original midyear cutaway show car.(pretty cool) also when I was there they had 3 65 big blocks and 2 67 big blocks and then what seemed like a load of b/b camaros.Alot of the local folks are steamed they charge for going into the show room to look around but remember its taken off the sale price of a car if you purchase a car from them.If its a family trip there is an area called honeymoon island just south of the vette place that is excellent for walking on the beach for shells,Just try and time your visit for low tide.Contact me via email if you need directions to tarpon springs or honey moon island.Good luck and have fun.
PS youll also be in for a treat of seeing one of the most beutifull bridges I have ever seen (sunshine bridge) you will have to cross to get up to tarpon springs
