I can't find a fuel fiter for my '64 327/300. It's a AC filter # GF90. I would prefer the black w/white screening as to a silver or I beieve a zinc coated one. Anyone have a source for one. Many thanks.

Re: Help With Fuel Filter
Joe, I had a hard time with this because each place I called said GM discontinued them and some shops were taking blanks and painting them to appear as GF90's. I never called Paragon though because I was told the ones they had were going for over a hundred each. Being new to this restoration business I have difficulty knowing real from counterfit, this is why I depend on this forum so much. Thanks to all.- Top

Re: Help With Fuel Filter
Randy----
If the GF-90 is GM-discontinued, it must have happened very recently. Like within the last month or so. The system still shows it as being available, but it could be a month behind. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: GF-90 Fuel Filters
The GF-90 filters from Delco have been discontinued over a year but warehouses have continued to supply them until the supply exhausted. Some Corvette supply houses, such as Long Island have them in large numbers and continue to sell them. The GF-90's that have been available for the last 30 or so years have been zinc with red letters. Corvette supply houses have bought these, painted them black and had them silkscreened with the logo.
Most owners of Corvettes the last 30 years have never seen a real GF-90 as they were delivered on Corvettes. Note: some owners swear that their 63 had the zinc with red letters--that's ok with me. Please no e-mails!
The jest of this story is there are no real original black with white lettering GF-90's out there. All the ones seen today are just faking it!

Re: GF-90 Fuel Filters
There is a little more to the story as the '62 version was silver, and so the '63 story of being silver makes some sense. GM used to get nutty every few years over "engine beautification" meaning that all possible bits and pieces in the engine compartment should be black, except the engine. that is how some years of Corvettes used wiring that was black with colored stripes to indicate the circuit. The recent reproductions as described also have one feature that easily identifies than as non-original, and that is the notch in the edges of the hex fittings on either end. Original examples did not have the notch.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Filter diameters
The original GF-90 fuel filter design had a main canister diameter of about 1-7/8".
The current Delco GF-90 design has a diameter of about 2-1/8". I don't know why the diameter was changed. I ordered a case of these filters about two years ago. When they arrived at the local Delco warehouse and I saw the new GF-90 shape, I refused to pay for them. I still buy one occasionally "for industrial use", but I don't like the new shape enough to put it on a Corvette restoration. The Mobile Delco warehouse still has most of that case I ordered if any of you want to buy it.- Top
