I am trying to undo a Bubba restoration of a 58. They reinforced the inside of the body seam and removed the flanges behind the rear bumper. Then they filled in the exhaust holes and ran the exhaust out the bottom. I now need to replace the flange and cut the holes. After removing all the paint and stuff, I can see where the original flange was but not the exhaust holes. I need to know the hole diameter. I marked the center position of eah hole before removing the rear bumper but need the correct diameter to cut the holes. Thanks in advance.

Re: C1, 1958 Hole around exhaust
Ken,
I don't know for sure if the '60 and '58 are the same. But, I have my '60 body off and in a good position to measure anything. So, I measured the flange on the top (looking down) at the body seam and it appears to be app. 3/4" wide at the widest part. The flange does vary in width. The flange begins and travels left and right from the closest to the center of the car's bumper bracket wholes then stops and begins on each side of the second whole for the bumper bracket. Then on to the whole for the exhaust. The whole for the exhaust measures 3" in diameter. And, the seam (where the flange has molded back to the body) measures 1 1/2" to the center from top and to the bottom. I hope I understood your question and answered what you ment in your post. Anyway, these are from a '60.- Top

Re: C1, 1958 Hole around exhaust
Ken,
I had the same problem with my 57. I drilled a 1/4 inch hole where I thought the exhaust hole originally was and then probed around to see where the inside walls were. I then used a burr to enlarge the hole to its original size. Sure you don't want to make a mistake but if you do, just use a little glass and fix it back. you will be less likely to make a mistake if you start with a small hole.- Top

Re: C1, 1958 Hole around exhaust
Ken, Mine are just a tad shy of 3" (measuring top to bottom). I think the key will be making sure the top is correctly located. A good point of reference is the bumper. Make sure the bumper is sitting correct and the top edge of the flange should be about a 1/8 to 1/4 lower (should just fit inside the bumper). The dia of the hole should be about the width of the body side of the bumper (i.e. 2 7/8 - 2 15/16). If you don't have them you may want to get the exhaust tunnels to ensure everything fits ok. Hope this helps, Ted- Top
